A Case for the Kitty

Be forewarned. Animal Rights Activists may not appreciate the below mentioned.....

I've always considered myself more of a dog person than a cat person.
I myself am a "Golden Retriever" by trait and value the loyal characteristics that are abundant in dogs while cats put on airs and take great pride in you needing to earn their affections.

I also never really got people who blogged about their pets, had portraits painted of their cats and sent their dogs to daycare spas. Did you know there are yoga classes for puppies and services that provide gourmet meals delivered to your door for your pooch? I kid you not!

While I always swore that any pet we had would be that....a pet, not a person....I find our latest addition to the family unnervingly endearing! "Punkin Pie" came with a big bow around her furry neck as a Christmas gift for Britain and Izzy. And as much as it pains me to admit....she has wormed her way into my heart!

After dog-sitting recently, Im especially impressed that cats know where to go to the bathroom, clean themselves and dont eat diapers or drink out of the toilet! Big time brownie points for the feline!

Punkin has been a dream. This poor cat undergoes so much abuse and has yet to scratch anyones eyes out. She sleeps curled up under blankets nose-to-nose with Britain.
She hasnt protested when Evie slings her over her shoulder and slaps her on the back like a baby trying to get her to burp.
Evie clips her hairbows on Punkin to "try on" and amazingly, the cat obliges.
And recently, Izzy and Evie have taken to dressing her in doll clothes and pushing her around in the toy stroller. Gives me a queasy stomach just to imagine!
Punkin adores the kids and faithfully waits sitting in the window watching for them to return from school every day at 3:00. You'd think she'd be burying herself in box springs under the bed if she had any sense at all.

I must say, Im impressed and have converted to being a "cat person". We certainly found the right one for our motley bunch. While I have no intention of monograming bath towels with Punkins name or purchasing a rhinestone collar, I'll confess, its not entirely impossible that she'll make it in the family Christmas card picture this year. We think she's kinda cute!

What a perfect cat for your crew! I'm a dog person too, but growing up we always had dogs and a cat. I have lots of memories of dressing our cat, Snowball, in baby clothes and playing "mommy" to that poor thing. Such a good sport and so many fun memories! :) I'm sure the girls will remember Punkin forever! :)

oh this makes me smile so much. I had an orange cat in grade-school through high school and I was known to dress HIM up in doll-clothes and put him in my baby cradle....this brings back memories!! :) So cute!!!

My Tanner is dying over this post. Mom, it looks like one of my kittens! His kitty had some beautiful tabby kittens. Our kitty is the same way. Very patient, and knows her name and comes like a doggy!

What a lovely kitty! As a child I had a cat that would literally walk me to school and then return home. I think when it comes to cats you just have to find the right one for your family and home.

This cracks me up. I am a dog person, but you make a good point for the kitty lovers. If only our dog wouldn't try to eat them. :) I saw you link on Christine's site and hopped over.

I'm not a cat person AT ALL! BUT these pictures definitely made me smile especially the ones with lil miss Evie. I can only imagine how smothering she is with that kitty. I love the hair bows and the baby carriage.
When we get back from CO, we are surprising the kiddos with a puppy. Getting them to agree on a name will be interesting. I can't wait to see Maggie's face.
