Funny Faces

My mother and sister came to keep me company while C was out of town this weekend.  That means I got to stay in my pajamas until 10 and the kids flocked to Grandmoni’s room for stories this morning before she fixed a pancake breakfast.  I love getting to be irresponsible and letting someone else be the adult in charge in my own home!

A productive day.  Primer coat of paint on a bathroom, a magic show put on by the twins (complete with an admission fee and concessions:) and baking and decorating 4 dozen Jack-o-lantern cookies. These are a family tradition….so yummy!
Only in the south can you have a Halloween cookie workshop outside in October.  This is why I love this place!!

Someday, Ill make them all by myself and they will actually resemble faces rather than explosions of orange frosting peppered with chocolate chips.  Izzy proudly held up her pumpkin cookie containing no less than 4 candy corn pieces and 3 even rows of 5 chocolate chips and exclaimed “isn’t he cute?”
But, you get the idea

Regardless of how they look, these are the best-tasting cookies…….ever! Mother still sends them to my 20-something year old brothers every Halloween and they LOVE them.
2 C. Butter (softened)
12 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
2 C. Sugar
2 t. Vanilla
4 C. Flour
2 T Baking Powder
1/2 t. Salt
2 C. Oatmeal (quick oats)

Cream first two ingredients.  Add sugar and vanilla.  In separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients, then add to butter mixture.  Form into pumpkins* on cookie sheet.  Bake @ 350 for 12-15 mins.

Frost with orange tinted frosting and make faces out of candy corn, raisins, chocolate chips.
* We use this same recipe and make heart-shaped Valentine cookies in February.  Substitute pink frosting and red-hots, conversation hearts and sprinkles.
Best served with a very tall glass of cold milk.

Mmmmm.....mmmmmm....goodness!
And speaking of delicious....how cute is she?

Usurping my authority, Mother gave Gigi her first taste of sugar....a tiny dab of orange frosting.
Silly Grandmoni!

Look at those thighs...she clearly doesnt need any additional calories!!

All tuckered out from her first big cookie projected.
Lots more of those to come little peanut!
